Overview And Tasting Notes

The Cohiba Behike 56 stands as the largest and most exclusive member of the Behike family, celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship and rarity. Measuring 6 1/2 inches (165–166 mm) with a 56 ring gauge, this grand corona (Laguito No. 6) is meticulously hand-rolled in Cuba using only the finest long-filler tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region. The Behike 56 is distinguished by its inclusion of the rare medio tiempo leaf - a dark, sun-grown tobacco from the very top of the plant - adding unique depth and complexity to the blend. Each cigar is finished with a signature pigtail cap and wrapped in striking gold foil for LCDH editions, exuding luxury and collectibility.

With extremely limited annual production, the 2016 vintage is highly prized by collectors and aficionados seeking a truly remarkable Cuban experience. The Behike is produced in very limited quantities at the exclusive El Laguito factory, and the rolling process, using tobacco leaves selected from the finest plantations in San Juan y Martínez and San Luis, incorporates a very rare leaf which offers exceptional character and taste.

Cohiba was established in the 1960s as a private brand for Fidel Castro and high-ranking Cuban officials. The name “Cohiba” comes from the Taino word for tobacco, reflecting the island’s indigenous heritage. Initially, Cohiba cigars were not available to the public and were reserved for diplomatic gifts and government use. Their exclusivity and quality quickly made them a symbol of luxury and status. The brand was officially launched for public sale in 1982, with the Línea Clásica. The Línea 1492, including the Siglo I, debuted in 1992 to mark Columbus’s quincentenary. Cohiba is known for its unique production process, including an extra barrel fermentation for the filler leaves, which imparts a distinctive smoothness and aroma found only in Cohiba cigars. Today, Cohiba is the flagship brand of Habanos S.A., recognized worldwide for its quality, innovation, and association with Cuban heritage and prestige.

COHIBA BEHIKE 56 (2016 VINTAGE) TASTING NOTES

- Initial Third: Opens with creamy cedar, barnyard grass, and toasted nuts, underscored by gentle sweetness and a touch of floral aroma. Notes of graham cracker, earth, and subtle cocoa appear, with a mild spice (black pepper) and a hint of hay. The smoke is smooth and medium-bodied, with a creamy texture and refined complexity.

- Middle Third: Flavours deepen with richer earthiness, leather, and roasted coffee beans. Dark chocolate, toasted almond, and a touch of caramelized nut sweetness emerge. The body intensifies, with a fuller, more robust character and a lingering peppery finish.

- Final Third: The cigar crescendos with pronounced wood, mocha, walnut, and black tea. Sweetness reminiscent of honey and molasses balances the spice and earthy tones. The finish is long, creamy, and complex, with a harmonious blend of dark chocolate, leather, and subtle citrus.

- Aroma: Expect a bouquet of cedar, earth, leather, and roasted coffee, complemented by cocoa, floral notes, and a mellow sweetness. The smoke is dense, creamy, and full-bodied, with a velvet-like texture and a consistently smooth draw.

- Mouthfeel: The Behike 56 delivers a creamy, chewy smoke, with an effortless draw and a slow, even burn - hallmarks of impeccable Cuban construction. The large ring gauge allows for a cool, leisurely smoke that reveals new depths and nuances with each puff.
